  • A1GP future not safe
    Oct.6 (GMM) Series boss Pete da Silva has responded to reports that the future of A1GP does not look bright. After a diminished field raced in Holland last weekend, amid a raft of last-minute rule changes, serious questions are being asked about whether the self-styled 'World Cup of Motorsport' can survive its fourth season.

  • F1 fans asked to complete survey
    Oct.6 (GMM) F1 fans are being urged to participate in a global survey about the sport. The online questionnaire, carried out by Renault's title sponsor ING and to be published in F1 Racing magazine, is now live.

    Oct.6 (GMM) An investigation into an investment deal involving championship leader Lewis Hamilton has been given a clean bill of health. We reported that the McLaren driver's $35m deal to buy a luxury beachside hotel development on the Caribbean island was being probed, following a change of government.

    Oct.5 (GMM) Bernie Ecclestone, the chief mastermind of the night racing concept for F1, has hit back at Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo's claim that the Singapore grand prix was akin to a circus . Also lashing out at the lack of overtaking opportunities at new street circuits, and the farcical safety car rules, Montezemolo said last week that all this is humiliating for F1 .

  • Goverment to investigate Hamilton
    Oct.5 (GMM) A deal whereby Lewis Hamilton this year invested millions of dollars in Grenada, the home of his paternal grandfather, is under investigation by the Caribbean island's government. We reported in July that the McLaren driver was set to invest in a luxury beachside hotel development.

  • Santander may stick with McLaren afterall
    Oct.5 (GMM) McLaren is not yet resigned to losing its Spanish sponsor Santander, a major banking group, to championship rival Ferrari. We reported recently that, even without Fernando Alonso in the Italian team's red car, Santander's likely switch from McLaren to Ferrari in 2010 is still on track.

  • A maximum of two night races per season would be enough - Sauber
    Oct.5 (GMM) Peter Sauber has urged caution at the advent of the night racing era in formula one. In the wake of the widely acclaimed Singapore grand prix, the first F1 race in history to be staged after sunset under floodlights, Bernie Ecclestone admitted he has set his sights on adding more night races to the future calendar.

    Oct.5 (GMM) Dietrich Mateschitz has hinted he might reconsider his earlier pledge to sell his 50 per cent share in the formula one team Toro Rosso. With the customer car saga possibly back in a state of flux, and Sebastian Vettel's breakthrough Monza win, the Red Bull mogul told an Austrian newspaper It is possible that we leave everything as it is .

  • McLaren Fuji preview
    The snow-capped cone of the mighty Mount Fuji volcano forms the impressive backdrop to the Japanese Grand Prix, the 16th race of the 18-round 2008 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The 3,776m peak towers over the state-of-the-art Fuji International Speedway, which returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2007 after last hosting the Japanese race in 1977.

  • Heidfeld in South Korea
    Seoul (KR), 4th October 2008. The BMW Sauber F1 Team marked a rather special debut in South Korea on Saturday when Nick Heidfeld became the first Formula One driver ever to clock up mileage in an F1 car in South Korea’s capital, Seoul. Along a closed-off section in the Samsung-dong area of the city, the German racing driver was cheered by an estimated 20,000 spectators who had come to watch his demo drive.

    Maranello (Modena), 2nd October 2008 - On the upcoming weekend the European division's of the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge and the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy will be held at the Nurburgring - with the fourth and sixth races respectively.

As our Team Principal Stefano Domenicali said after the race, we really need to try and finish first and second in all the remaining rounds.     Oct.4 (GMM) After Kimi Raikkonen admitted his 2008 title defence is now over, F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone has declared extreme disappointment with the current form of the reigning world champion. With Kimi I am extremely disappointed, the 77-year-old billionaire admitted in interview with Germany's Welt am Sonntag newspaper, to be published on Sunday.

  • F2 winner will automatically test F1 car
    Oct.4 (GMM) Champions of the new FIA-backed Formula 2 series will win a full F1 test with the Williams team. Promoter Jonathan Palmer said at the low-cost series' launch that the prize is possible due to the relationship with the Grove based formula one team, which will design the F2 car from 2009.

  • Ecclestone announces GP3 series
    Oct.4 (GMM) Organisers of GP2, including Bernie Ecclestone, have announced the creation of GP3, a feeder category for the F1 support class. A brief statement said the championship will be launched in 2010 as a stepping stone into GP2 , and held on the same formula one weekends.

  • F1 news round-up
    Oct.3 (GMM) Williams and Ferrari have both been voted a 2008-9 'CoolBrand'; an annual UK compilation of the most iconic brands. The list is compiled from a shortlist of 1100 brands by marketing professionals and the public. Williams is among the top 55 CoolBrands, but Ferrari is at number 13, although beaten by the likes of Aston Martin, iPhone, YouTube, Google and Rolex.

  • Briatore flies 6000 miles
    Oct.3 (GMM) Amid strengthening speculation that Fernando Alonso is to stay at Renault next year, the Spaniard stayed behind in Singapore this week for a vacation with his team boss Flavio Briatore. Briatore, 58, was then due to fly to Paris for the French capital's famous Motor Show, after a meeting with the Renault chief executive Carlos Ghosn.

  • Stewards hurt Hamilton at Singapore
    Oct.2 (GMM) Yet another stewards decision, this time at last weekend's Singapore grand prix, played against the McLaren team. The Mercedes-powered outfit arrived in the Asian city-state direct from Paris, where it lost an appeal against a verdict at the earlier Belgian grand prix that cost championship leader Lewis Hamilton the race win.
